Eight years of Wood Works Mochlos

In Mochlos, life moves with the sea. And in our workshop the day begins with the smell of fresh-cut wood.

Eight years ago, Yannis opened that workshop with his tools, his hands and one belief: that something made with care should last a lifetime.

A village of makers

Craft runs deep here. Thousands of years ago, Mochlos had an artisans' quarter of its own, where Minoan workshops made pottery, worked metal and wove cloth. In our own small way, we like to think we carry on that story: people in this village, still making things by hand.

In Greek we have a word for it: meraki. It means putting a piece of your soul into what you make. It is the only way Yannis knows how to work.

Where it all began

What began as instinct in childhood gradually deepened into craft, and then into vocation. There was no grand opening. There was one project, then another, each one finished with the same patience.

Every piece we make becomes part of someone's life: the place where a family gathers, the door that welcomes guests home, the details people touch every day without thinking about who made them. We think about it. Every time.

The trust of our people

People liked what we made, and they showed it with their trust: more requests, more projects, more days when the workshop never seemed to stop.

Every request still moves us. Someone is inviting us into their home, their business, their plans. We have never taken that lightly.

Maria, by his side

Behind every busy season there was someone else too. Maria, Yiannis's wife, has lived this journey alongside him: the long days, the late evenings, the worries and the small victories shared at the end of the day.

Now she is stepping into the workshop with him. Maria will look after organisation and customer service. She will be the voice you hear when you call, the person who keeps every project on track, and the one who makes sure you always know what happens next. That leaves Yiannis's hands where they belong: on the wood.

For us, this is what a family business means. Not just working together, but building something together.

"For years I watched Yiannis give his heart to every piece. Now I want every client to feel that same care from the very first call." - Maria

Making room for the next chapter

The workshop that gave us our start is beginning to feel small for the work people trust us with. So we are planning for a bigger space: more room to create, and more room for your projects. We will share more when the time is right.

"I started with my hands and a small workshop. Eight years later, I have Maria beside me and people who believe in what we do. That is more than I ever imagined." - Yiannis

Thank you

Eight years are never built alone. To every client who has trusted us with a project, to the suppliers and partners who work alongside us, to Stefania Dermitzaki of SD Strategy Lab www.sdstrategylab.com for walking this part of the journey with us, and to Mochlos, our home: thank you.

The next chapter starts with all of you.

If you are dreaming of a bespoke piece for your home, villa or business, contact us.

Maria will be glad to hear what you have in mind, and Yiannis will be glad to make it.

Here's to the next eight years.

With love from the workshop,

Yiannis & Maria
